As a kid I wanted to be a truck driver. My dad was a great butcher and we always ate well, but he wasn’t great at the business side. I liked the idea of being self-employed since he was, so I went into accounting mainly to work out how to help people get their finances right. Which is still what I love to do – I get out of bed in the morning so I can help people achieve their financial goals.

One of my other passions is cars, and I’ve just restored a 1971 Mustang convertible. People give you the thumbs up when you drive it. I think SA is the greatest place on Earth, and I love the Crows, Clare Valley Riesling and holidays at Carrickalinga.

I’m often visiting clients in Port Lincoln and they’ll send me home with a box of prawns fresh off their boats – there’s nothing like it. After meeting my future wife Mira, she took me for the first time to meet the family, where I took my turn cranking a pig on a spit in the backyard. Unfortunately, when they gave me some potent homemade spirit to drink, it was so strong I coughed it onto the fire – the resulting fireball had everyone roaring with laughter and they’re still talking about it 20 years later.
